JUSTICE FOR PTE GEOFF GRAY

Why have we made this page?
We have made this page to highlight the death of our son Geoff. He was a bright lively
young man with a zest for life. He joined the British army in January 2001 on
his 17th birthday. This was what he had wanted to do from being a small boy. In
September of 2001 whilst on guard duty in Deeepcut Surrey UK, he was found dead
with two bullet holes in his head. The purpose of this page is to tell the truth
about what happened to Geoff, and maybe get some help from people who read this.
Outline of what happened to Geoff
At Deepcut army base around 1:15am on the 17th September 2001 shots were heard.
A message was sent from call sign alpha 4 to the guard room saying that Geoff
was missing. A patrol was sent to search for Geoff. When the patrol arrived at
his post, the other two soldiers that were supposed to be patrolling with Geoff
were told to stay in the guard hut because of their nervous reaction and they
were in no fit state to carry out a search.
The search party carried out a sweep of the area and fence. At no time were they
more than arms distance from the fence. Nothing was found. A further three
search's were carried out amid reports of people hearing a fence rattle and a
sighting of an intruder running away. Still nothing found. On the fifth sweep of
the area, Geoff was found only 30cm away from the fence with two bullet wounds
to the head.
What the British Army say
From the time of Geoff's death to date the Army are still intent on proving
Geoff committed suicide. The civil police and military police found that there
was no suspicious circumstances. The Coroner recorded an open verdict. As he
found there was no proof that Geoff indicated or in fact did take his own life.
What we think
We are of the opinion that there is a cover up surrounding Geoff's death. The
facts that came out in the inquest prove that Geoff was shot twice in the head.
There is evidence suggesting that his body was moved, then the intruder or
intruders have waited over an hour to place Geoff's body where it could be
found. We feel that the Army has tried to make us believe some fairy tale where
Geoff shot himself twice, hid for an hour, climbed over a fence a couple of times
then laid down and died. On the 23rd March 2002, James Collinson a 17 yr old
soldier was found dead with a gunshot wound. He was guarding the same fence and
officers mess as Geoff.
Please help us get justice for these young men. They were so precious to us all,
and they should be given the respect of having the truth told about how they
died.
